His reason seems to be that it affects others; this could be managed by arranging ventilated designated smoking areas or maybe by designating certain landings as smoke free – or is this naïve?
Surly prison is not a good environment to give up smoking unless you are really determined. I feel this will just end in another black market.

PaysanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8623255227619374869.post-37728348733750986002016-01-31T23:14:49.678+00:002016-01-31T23:14:49.678+00:00Dissapointed he was not asked about the case for a...Dissapointed he was not asked about the case for and against body cameras and cctv as protective measures to combat corruption and violence with an external organisation perhaps as an arm of HMIP.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02114892899148749332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8623255227619374869.post-11280063963890378402016-01-31T21:44:10.010+00:002016-01-31T21:44:10.010+00:00I was at Highpoint when the inspectors came in Oct...I was at Highpoint when the inspectors came in October. Most departments were given a 3 but OMU a 1. We were actively told not to speak to the inspectors. The fear or rather concern that most prisoners have Is that the inspectors report would not kickstart any real changes. The staff wanted us to raise our concerns but fear of a "ship out" by a vengeful governor if seen talking to them ensured that the inspector went about the prison blindfolded. It is a shame when you meet people that genuinely want to help but do not get given the opportunityTheTartanConhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14066269846530155050noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8623255227619374869.post-10235983442429842632016-01-31T21:12:37.976+00:002016-01-31T21:12:37.976+00:00I was at Downview in 2013 when they did an unannou...I was at Downview in 2013 when they did an unannounced inspection. I kno0w for a fact that a number of prisoners told various members of the inspection team about corrupt members of staff and what they were doing from OMU staff asking for cash to recommend parole for IPP's, bringing in mobile phones and drugs to order etc and the inspectorate did absolutely nothing with the intelligence passed to them because none of the staff that were doing this had anything happen to them. The info was passed to the inspection team because people hoped they might actually do something with the intelligence and they didn't. They should at least have passed it on to the appropriate bodies to deal with the staff in question and something should have happened as a result. Prisoners are willing to pass on intelligence to the inspection teams or at least they were under Hardwicke because of his rep and he was trusted but then people felt very let down when nothing at all happened to the staff in question.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
